The arrival of fall brings a lot of change, from how we dress to how we eat to where we socialize, and of course, how we apply our makeup. In addition to using a lighter hand when it comes to bronzer, it’s also time to swap lighter lip colors and glosses for darker, richer hues. If you’re looking for a more autumn-appropriate shade to wear with your sweater dresses and boots this season, I’m sharing my list of the best fall lipsticks for fair skin.

Best Fall Lipsticks for Fair Skin

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Toast of New York’

Woman applying Revlon lipstick - best fall lipstick for fair skin

Revlon is one of the most established cosmetics brands when it comes to lipstick. There are an almost overwhelming amount of reds to choose from, but one I like for fall specifically is Toast of New York. First released in the 1990s, the shade has gained a cult-like following and is beloved for flattering many different skin tones. I actually purchased it after I saw two other women with red hair and fair skin recommending it on social media. I wasn’t let down. Toast of New York is a medium copper shade, or, as Revlon describes it, a “creamy bright auburn.” Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Toast of New York, $10.49 at Ulta Beauty.

Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Cream Lipstick in ‘French Tea’

Woman with medium length red hair holding a lipstick by Lancome - best fall lipstick for fair skin

Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Cream Lipstick might be the lipstick I wear most frequently. The formula is sooo creamy and comfortable on lips, and the consistency is thick enough that the color stays put for a while. The luxurious satin finish is hard to beat. Lancôme also has a wonderful shade range with many flattering options that are great for everyday wear. My previous favorite, Kiss Me Ruby, has sadly been discontinued. I’ve since replaced it with shade 274, French Tea, a dark peach that’s lovely on fair skin. Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Cream Lipstick in 274 French Tea, $35 at Ulta

Ilia Color Block Lipstick in ‘Rosette’

Ilia describes the shade Rosette as a “light pink,” however, anyone with fair skin can tell you that what’s “light” on most people can look very not light on our complexion. On me, Rosette is more of a medium rose shade. The formula is very pigmented, which is a good thing. However, if I don’t want it to look too dark sometimes dab on a light layer in the center of my lips and blend out with my finger. Ilia Color Block Lipstick in Rosette, $28 at Sephora.

Vulox Vanity Glamour Lipstick in ‘Main Street’

If you follow Vulox Vanity on social madia, you’re familiar with their amazing collection of vintage cosmetics. And if you too are a sucker for gorgeous packaging, you’ll be pleased to see that Vulox Vanity has released a line of lipstick inspired by their stunning vintage makeup collection. The lipstick’s semi-matte formula feels creamy, not drying, and the gold metal tube is fit for a movie star’s vanity. Main Street is a deep cherry red with a hint of shine. Just the thing a leading lady would want. Vulox Vanity Glamour Lipstick in Main Street, $32 at Vulox Vanity

Riley Rose Liquid Lipstick in ‘Get Loud’

Woman with a scarf hairstyle, white blouse and vintage ncklace

Don’t be afraid to try darker colors. I was surprised how much I liked Get Loud, a dark brown liquid lipstick from Riley Rose. I like wearing it with subtle eye makeup so it feels a little 1930s-inspired. While you’re already going for a bold look, why not match your lipstick to your jewelry? Riley Rose Liquid Lipstick in Get Loud, $9.99 at Forever 21.

Stila Plumping Lip Glaze in ‘Toffee’

Woman looking into a mirror applying a lip gloss

Stila has released new fall shades of the brand’s popular Lip Plumping Glaze. I love the shine this gloss adds to bare lips. I also like layering it over lipstick or Stila Calligraphy Lip Stain in the shade Hillary. The new lip glaze shade Toffee is a pretty rosey nude and Cinnamon is slightly darker, well, cinnamon shade. Stila Plumping Lip Glaze in Toffee, $24 at Ulta.

Tower 28 Shineon Milky Lip Jelly in ‘Sesame’

Woman with glamorous retro hairstyle and glossy lipstici

Mauve lipsticks and glosses are some of the most universally flattering lip products. Tower 28 ShineOne Milky Lip Jelly in Sesame is a beautiful mauve on its own. I also like it layered over lipsticks or liners. In the photo above, I’ve filled in my lips with a dark plum lip liner (One/Size Lip Snatcher Waterproof Precision Lip Liner in Code Word) and topped it with the Tower 28 gloss. Tower 28 ShineOn Milky Lip Jelly in Sesame, $16 at Credo Beauty
