The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Drinking Game

Life, Retro Recipes / Wednesday, December 4th, 2019

I cannot wait for the season 3 premiere of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel this Friday! It quickly became one of my favorite shows. To celebrate the return of the comedian with the amazing hat collection, Miriam “Midge” Maisel, her unstoppable manager Susie Myerson and her funny family and friends, I created a drinking game to play while you watch the show! But first, let’s review where we left Midge and the gang at the end of season 2.

Season 2 recap of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Here is where I tell you to leave now if you want to avoid spoilers! To recap the end of season 2, Midge conveniently forgot she was engaged to the doctor Benjamin and accepted an offer to go on tour with Shy Baldwin. After this monumental decision, she then goes to spend the night with Joel, which I did not see coming. Abe convinces Rose to return home from her soul-searching trip in Paris only to leave his cushy job at Columbia.

This season, Midge and Susie hit the road with Shy and will surely learn many valuable lessons about showbiz and life in general along the way. Plus, they’ll be in Miami and the fashion will no doubt be phenomenal.

How to watch season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The Marvelous Maisel is an Amazon Prime original series and for now, it is only available to watch on the streaming platform. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to binge watch before the season 3 premiere this Friday, December 6.

How to play The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel drinking game

This is my unofficial drinking game inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! The rules of the game are simple. Fill your glass with something delicious before you press play on the remote, and take a drink every time one of the first 11 items happens. If one of the bottom two items happen, then you have to finish your drink entirely! Refill as you often as you like.

I made it so you can play during the past seasons, also, not just the new season. Here are the rules for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel drinking game to save on Pinterest or to save the image to your phone and share with friends:

Pink cocktails to make for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel drinking game

While playing The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel drinking game, you could serve wine, Midge’s drink of choice for when she’s on a drunk rampage heading toward the Gaslight. Or, you could whip up some retro pink cocktails as a nod to her favorite color.

Pink Squirrel Cocktail

The Pink Squirrel was a popular cocktail in the 1950s. To make one, add 1 oz creme de noyaux, 1 oz white creme de cacao and 1.5 to 2 oz heavy cream to a shaker filled with ice; shake and strain into a coupe or martini glass. Garish with a maraschino cherry or freshly grated nutmeg.

Pink Cadillac Margarita

I like tequila, and this Pink Cadillac Margarita with fresh lime juice, cranberry juice and powdered sugar sounds delightfully sweet and tart.

Watermelon Margarita

For a more refreshing drink, try my Watermelon Mint Margaritas. They’re made with fresh watermelon and mint and have no added sugar.

Retro party recipes to serve at a Mrs. Maisel watch party

Food from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

If you’re hosting a Marvelous Mrs. Maisel watch party, you could serve food mentioned in the series. This could be brisket, a Jell-O mold (mentioned in a conversation between Lenny Bruce and Midge) and meatloaf (mentioned in a scene between Midge and Benjamin at the diner). There’s a great breakdown of everything Midge orders for Imogene in a scene at the Jewish deli on myjewishlearning.com. The full order is a hot pastrami Reuben on rye, chicken in a pot, potato knish, matzo ball soup, a cheese Danish, a lime rickey, black-and-white cookies and a Bromo-Seltzer to go.

1950s appetizers

You could also serve 1950s-inspired appetizers. I’ve recently started collecting old cookbooks and have one from 1958 called Thoughts for Buffets that’s full of fun retro recipes. The entire book is filled with examples of buffet menus and tips for hostesses. These are some of the appetizers included in the book that you can still find recipes for today:

  • Cheese Straws
  • Deviled Eggs
  • Sweet Sour Meat Balls
  • Pigs in Blankets
  • Olive Tarts
  • Party Cheese Ball
  • Bacon Crackers

Desserts to serve while you play The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel drinking game

For dessert, the aforementioned black-and-white cookies are appropriate, and Pink Chocolate Covered Strawberries are pretty and simple. Plus, pink is Midge’s favorite color.

Have fun and please drink responsibly!
