Swimwear has changed a lot throughout the years, from the wool romper-style swimsuits of the 1920s to the the structural swimsuits of the 1940s to the itsy-bitsy bikinis of today. A lot of vintage styles have made comebacks in more recent decades—though thankfully, not the wool rompers—with more modern touches. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite vintage-inspired swimwear brands, plus a few others, to provide some stylish options for your next pool party or beach getaway.

Simone Perélè

Simone Perélè is a lingerie brand from Paris that makes gorgeous bras, panties and loungewear. Their swimwear provides the same supportive, flattering fit as their lingerie. I adore the Dune Underwire Triangle Bikini Top in Mimosa Yellow, with adjustable straps, a classic hook closure and a sweet flower decoration at the center. Paired with the matching Retro Brief, it’s a flirty look that’s sure to draw attention at the pool or beach.

Hadley Smythe

Luxury swimwear brand Hadley Smythe makes elegant one-piece swimsuits and bikinis fit for an Old Hollywood movie star. Think 1950s-style halter bikini tops and high-waist bottoms in classic colors and unique textures. My favorite is the Sweet Pea bikini with a chiffon floral embellishment on the straps that can be tied around the neck or worn at the bust.

Seafolly

Australian swimwear brand Seafolly has a large selection of bikinis in trendy fits and colors to choose from, but the brand also makes more timeless styles. They carry a range of sizes plus styles with more support for fuller cups. I love the flattering fit of the Cutout Quilted Bandeau One-Piece Swimsuit. It reminds me a lot of one-piece swimsuits from the 1940s and early 1950s.

Albion Fit

Albion Fit may be best known for athleisurewear, but the brand also makes quality, comfortable swimwear. I have a gingham print halter bikini top and high-waist bottom from Albion Fit and it’s the most comfortable swimsuit I’ve ever owned.

Bleu Rod Beattie

Bleu Rod Beattie offers vibrant bikinis, one-piece swimsuits and matching cover-ups for sizes 4-22. There’s something for just about everyone, from bold tropical prints to sexy plunging styles to classic black swimsuits in figure-flattering silhouettes.

Sunshine 79

If your style is more 1970s boho, Sunshine 79 is for you. The swimwear brand has tons of cute styles in bright colors and psychedelic prints. They also have matching tunics, kimonos and pareo wraps so you can create a fully far-out look.

Seea

Seea makes sustainable swimsuits and surfwear in retro prints and styles. Since the swimsuits are made with active people in mind, they typically provide more coverage plus features like fabric with UPF 30 or higher, things I appreciate as someone who likes maximum sun protection.

Unique Vintage

Unique Vintage has become one of the most popular sites for finding everything from flapper outfits to 1950s-inspired circle skirts to bell bottoms. Over the years their collection of retro swimwear has also expanded. If you’re looking for a Marilyn Monroe-esque skirted swimsuit, you can probably find it here.
